Today we are talking about Dublin city in Ireland country. One of the most popular capital cities to visit in Europe, Dublin has many attractions for a mixture of tastes. 

There are many bars and clubs and is a regular favorite destination for stag weekends and hen nights. There is much more to do and see however in Dublin and this article gives a number of must see places to visit before you leave. 

I think my favorite is Warwick castle, however Dublin castle is also impressive and certainly worth a visit. The castle formerly under British rule for around seven hundred years, was handed over to the Irish free state in 1922. 

There are many features of the castle including: The throne room The figure of justice The chester beatty library and gallery  Garda siochana museum  Bermingham tower room If you like museums, The National Museum Of Ireland would be worth a visit. 

This museum is in three different parts and in three different locations. The three areas covered are:  Archaeology and history at Kildare Street The museum of natural history at Merrion Street In Benburb Street, 

there is a wider collection including the countries military and political history Some of the exhibits at the National museum Of Ireland:  Fonthill vase Irish Silver Viking collection The road to independence Prehistoric Ireland The National Gallery is my next recommended place to visit in Dublin. 

There are four wings to the gallery on four levels:  The Dargan Wing The Milltown Wing The Beit Wing The Millennium Wing This gallery has a collection of historic and present day art and is situated on Clare Street.

Pheonix park is apparently the largest city park in Europe and includes the famous Dublin Zoo. Other features include: The pheonix monument Ashtown Castle People's garden Papal cross  A little note of warning, it can be unsafe to visit this park when it becomes dark.


St Patrick's Cathedral is the Protestant Church of Ireland's national cathedral and is situated on St Patrick's Close. 

With a population of almost half a million, Dublin is the capital and largest city on the island of Ireland. It was originated in 488AD as a shipping port while going through the Irish Sea and has progressively grown into a modern day city throughout the years.

Today Dublin is a mixture of the old and the new Metro and they merge nicely from the downtown area out into the suburbs. Dublin has a sizable number of immigrants, coming from Great Britain, the US, Australia, New Zealand, and continental Europe. More recently, Nigerian, Indian, and Eastern European populations have also migrated into the city, largely attracted by Ireland's economic success since the mid-1990's.  

Old and once run-down streets have rapidly become busy 'ethnic districts', such as Moore Street's transformation into 'Little Africa' and Parnell Street East into the city's de-facto 'Chinatown' and 'Asian Village'.  These villages are a great way for tourists to spend the afternoon, casually walking the cobblestone streets, shopping and having lunch! There is plenty to do in Dublin if you are on vacation or sightseeing. 


The National Print Museum of Ireland - The Irish Museum of Modern Art - The National Gallery of Ireland - The Hugh Lane Municipal Gallery - The Chester Beatty Library - And three centers of the National Museum of Ireland are all located in Dublin. These cultural museums would make an informative and beautiful tour around the city of Dublin.  And Dublin has an excellent bus system that will carry you around the town with very little effort or expense.  Or if you prefer a more energetic afternoon, renting a bicycle and touring on a bike is a popular way to see the city “up close and personal.” The river Liffey separates Dublin, the North from the South, with typically the working class on the North and the middle and upper class on the South.  

In more recent years the city has also been divided socio-economically between East and Westside too.  But not to worry! There are plenty of restaurants and nightlife anywhere you want to go, from the friendly outdoor pubs to the Temple Bar, which is "The Place" for nightlife and often people from Britain and beyond visit for the weekend. Whatever you prefer, you are sure to find in Dublin.  


And don’t forget to catch a football or a rugby game at Croke Park, which seats 82,300 fans!  There are other sports arenas scattered around the city for soccer, horse and greyhound racing, baseball, and other athletic events which are held at Morton Stadium in Santry.

So, from fine dining to eating in your hotel and the wonderful restaurants, to cultural exhibits around town, and seasonal sports events across the country to ending a wonderful day with a night of dancing or walking along the beach, there is sure to be something for everyone to enjoy while in Dublin. A visitor to Ireland, ‘The Land of A Thousand Welcomes’ will witness this change from an ancient culture of tradition filled with myths and legends, superstition and religious fanaticism to a modern culture which is still deeply religious and respectful of its traditional heritage but now tempers this with the high standard of education the young people get today. 

What is there to see?
 Ireland has a great tradition in theater. We are not short of theaters in Ireland though of course we can always use more. Nor are we short of racetracks, but, I am not going to list all the activities that await the discerning visitor. That would mean that this would just turn into a long long list. 

I just want to highlight some of what I think are the more interesting ones.

The Arts Festivals and Music Festivals are not to be missed. The Arts Festivals are a coming together of all the best of Irish Arts including but not limited to theatre, spectacle, street art, music, comedy, literature, music and more with many participants visiting from other countries. The Galway Arts Festival (recommended) goes from July 13th to July 30th.  


The scenery in Ireland is famous throughout the world and with places like Roundstone in Galway, the Ring of Kerry and the cliffs of Moher in Clare on your itinerary you cannot go wrong. There are old castles and traditional stately homes like Bunratty Castle and Westport House and Ashford Castle and Clonalis House. 

For those who like that sort of thing there is a long list of them beautifully restored and looking at least as good as they did when they were in use, and many of them even offer accommodation usually to a standard difficult to match anywhere in the world. 

No matter what part of Ireland you visit now you will find a shopping experience that will impress.

The large multi-national companies seem to have a local branch almost everywhere, alongside the indigenous shops who have a more traditional offering. Small country towns still have the old style shops where you can get almost anything and some of them even still have a pub behind the shop.

There are many show-farms to visit, hurling matches to see and people to talk to.

The traditional Irish thatched cottage is still in use by ordinary people in many parts of Ireland. Though they are seen by many to be old and dated they are admired and appreciated by as many more.

 There are many islands around Ireland, but, if you are heading west I recommend that you visit The Aran Islands. 

You can fly or sail there are now a number of companies running boats several times a day. They will give a view of Ireland and an insight into our culture not found anywhere else in the country.

 If you don’t have enough reason to visit Ireland now I don’t know what to say.

Ireland is an island in the northwest of Europe with an area of 32,595 sq miles. About 370 km (230 miles) long by 225 km (140 miles) wide, Ireland comprises the Republic of Ireland and Northern Ireland.  The population of the island of Ireland is approximately 5.8 million people, 4.1 million in the Republic of Ireland and 1.7 million in Northern Ireland. Ireland is the third largest island in Europe.

Geography: Ireland has thirty-two counties, and four provinces: Connacht, Leinster, Munster and Ulster. A ring of coastal mountains surrounds low central plains.  

About five percent of Irish land is under forest. The island's green vegetation is a product of its mild climate and frequent but soft rainfall. Ireland's most scenic areas lie in the south western and western counties. These areas are largely mountainous and rocky, with beautiful green views.

It was brought to Ireland by Celtic invaders in 1000 BC, and to the end of the 18th century, was spoken by the majority of the people. The English language gained ground rapidly and Irish is now spoken regularly only in certain areas in the west of Ireland.  It is  taught in all schools, but despite active support from the government of Ireland, there are probably fewer than 90,000 speakers. It is the first official language of the Irish Republic and recently became an official language of the European Union.


Literature and the arts: For such a small country, Ireland has made a large contribution to world of art and literature in all its branches, mainly in English.  In more recent times, Ireland has produced four winners of the Nobel Prize for literature: George Bernard Shaw, William Butler Yeats, Samuel Beckett, and Seamus Heaney. James Joyce is widely considered as one of the most significant writers of the 20th century. 

His novel: Ulysses is considered one of the greatest novels of the 20th century.

Landscape: The Irish landscape is one of Ireland’s greatest attractions. Ireland's most scenic areas lie in the south western and western counties. 
There are several National Parks filled with towering hills, romantic lakes, and will always remain Irelands most unspoiled treasures. Magnificent scenery has attracted many visitors to these parks for years.

Climate: The Atlantic Gulf Stream keeps the Irish climate mild most of the year. Average temperatures in winter are 4 - 7o C, and in summer are 14 - 18o C.  Rainfall is heaviest in the west and lightest in the southeast, but at all times very unpredictable. 

Sport: Gaelic hurling and football are the most popular sports in Ireland - they make up the national sports of Ireland, known as Gaelic Games. All Gaelic games are governed by the Gaelic Athletic Association. Other main sports include: Rugby, Football, Horse racing and Greyhound racing.

If you are looking for low cost holidays, Ireland is a special location with many different cities to see as well as attractions. Dublin, Galway, Listowel and Cork are some great holiday vacation spots. 

You will find that your time spent in Ireland may in include relaxing by the pool, some sightseeing and visiting museums, gardens and seeing some historical buildings. You will find cheap holidays that include hotel accommodations, airfare and some great last minutes deals. With all these exciting deals and things to do and see, Ireland is one area you should not miss.


If you are adventurous, Listowel will be a place to visit. You can see the Garden of Europe with a beautiful array of flowers and plants. Although, the St John’s Art and Heritage Centre is filled with religious sites and some spectacular architectural buildings, you will find that the Listowel Castle is a mass of ancient ruins and the famous castle. 

Some of the historical sites in Listowel are River Fort, Plaster Relief and Cladh Ruadh. You can enjoy a couple of days in Listowel before moving on to Dublin where you will want to spend at least two days.

In Dublin, your cheap holidays will be filled with adventure and excitement. You can visit the Brougham Bridge and the Dillon Garden. A relaxing boat ride on the Dublin Grand Canal is going to be exciting and you will see the area from a different point of view. 

You do not want to miss the many Dublin museums and the Garden of Remembrance. Parnell Square is a visitors delight as well as Fitzwilliam Square. The Mansion House and the Leinster House on Grafton Street are something for everyone to see. 


You can view the Dublin Castle while visiting Fairview Park and the War Memorial Gardens. Dublin is so large with so many things to do, you might want to spend the entire week here without going anywhere else.

Galway low cost holidays in Ireland can be just exciting as Dublin and Listowel. Frye Square in Galway has the cathedral, Galway Court House and the harbor. The Galway Art Festival is something everyone enjoys as well as the Lynch Castle. 

The time to go is when you can visit the Galway Oyster Festival. This is a culinary event with many different types of cuisine. If you are looking for a scenic site in the area, Iar Connacht is a place to stop after a day of sightseeing. Now it is time to head to Cork.


Your cheap holidays package will take you to Cork where you can see the Ballincollig Gunpowder Mill, which is a historical museum. The medieval Red Abbey Tower is something to see. It is a historical country house with a unique architecture. 

After the museums and the art galleries, you will want to spend a few days relaxing and enjoy a day around the pool or even enjoy a day at the spa. You might even find some little shops to check out and enjoy a light Ireland lunch special.
